THE INDEPENDENT GENERATORS GROUP (IGG)

An informal grouping of 10 independent electricity producers which collectively have over 35 GW of electricity assets in Great Britain, who seek to provide a constructive voice for Great Britain’s power generation by engaging policymakers, regulators, and key industry stakeholders.

OUR MISSION

We seek to act as a forum for discussion on policy and regulation which impacts flexible and reliable power, and to offer pragmatic advice to government, regulators, and the Independent System Operator. Our mission is to enable Britain’s security of supply, building future-proofed market frameworks, and enabling the UK’s transition to net zero, with the investment pathways needed to support existing and novel generation technologies.

OUR PRIORITIES

Committed to net zero

We are committed to Net Zero and want to see an open and competitive transparent market that recognises the role of flexible generation and storage in supporting power decarbonisation and the onboarding of intermittent zero and low carbon technologies.

System security

Recognition of the role flexible, schedulable, and dispatchable generation and storage plays in supporting the energy system, and the provision of investor certainty needed to maintain system security through the energy transition.

Supporting delivery of flexible generation, investment in the power sector and a future-proofed market design

Clarity for generators on the future of market arrangements, recognition of the need for the maintenance of existing assets into the 2030s, and improved market design that levels the playing field and maintains system operability.
